Dr Zurina Abdulla is a lecturer at the Department of Social Development Professions with over 20 years of practice experience and has worked in academia for more than 10 years. Her research interests are qualitative studies in the areas of legislation, probation services, and social work, particularly with children in conflict with the law, parents, adult offenders, and victim support.

To date, Zurina has successfully supervised/co-supervised 5 Masters students and currently supervising 10 Master’s and two Doctoral students. She is a peer reviewer for the Social Work/Maatskaplike werk journal, a Council member of the South African Council for Social Development Professions, and Committee chairperson of the Council’s Education, Training and Development Committee.Her teaching focus area is on Social work practice, Group work theory and skills, and Advanced social work theories, models, and approaches. She is also the chairperson for her department’s research committee and Postgraduate coordinator.
